Basic First Aid
Overview of the course structure
This eLearning module was developed to provide a basic understanding of first aid and to equip learners with the confidence to respond effectively in emergency situations. It introduces the core principles of first aid, helping participants identify and remove potential hazards, assess scenes safely, and make informed decisions when someone becomes suddenly ill or injured.
Learners explore essential topics such as incident and scene management, infection control, legal considerations, and the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The module covers a wide range of medical, environmental, and traumatic emergencies, including burns, fractures, allergic reactions, heat exhaustion, hypothermia, sprains, cuts, and scrapes, along with practical steps for providing immediate care until professional medical assistance arrives.
Modality: Blended. This module provides the foundational online theory, preparing learners to confidently apply these life-saving concepts in their subsequent practical, face-to-face training sessions.
